KUTO Free Demo Is Out, and We're in Steam Next Fest
The KUTO: The Lock of Time demo is out. It's free, anyone with a Steam account can play it today, and on October 19 the game joins Steam Next Fest.
The free KUTO: The Lock of Time demo on Steam: Ancient Greece, a dozen locations, the Scythe of Kronos, the Rewind Key, the Minotaur and Athena.
The KUTO: The Lock of Time demo is one full era, Ancient Greece, built from a dozen hand-made locations you can play from start to finish. You get the Scythe of Kronos, the dash, the slide and the Rewind Key, and two bosses wait along the way, the Minotaur and Athena. It's free, and anyone with a Steam account can download it from the store page right now.
If you want the short story of how the demo came out and why we're in Steam Next Fest, that's in the announcement post. This one is the list of what you'll actually play.
The setup goes like this. Jokoan Kuto is a staff prophet for the Order of the Guardians of Time, he sees a future he very much doesn't like, and the elders answer by sending him to the sacrificial fire. The ritual goes wrong, and he comes out of it carrying the Scythe of Kronos. Ancient Greece is the era where all of that starts, and it's the era the demo covers.
The locations are hand-built, not generated. In the full game, sanctuaries, ritual halls and ruins join into one map, and new abilities open shortcuts back through it.
The Scythe of Kronos is always in your hand. In the demo it does three things:
You also get the dash and the slide. The scythe is heavy and the dash is short, so timing matters.
Then there's the Rewind Key. Missed a jump, walked into a trap, took a hit that should have ended the fight? Hold the key and take the last few seconds back. Every rewind burns Kronal Dust, though, and the only way to get more is to take it from enemies. Play too carefully and you run dry.
The Minotaur guards the lower sanctuary. Athena waits at the end of the demo. We're not going to describe their attacks here, because learning them is most of the fun.
The demo supports gamepads and Steam Deck. It's in English and Ukrainian.

The demo isn't frozen. In the first week of the closed playtest four players told us, separately, that the combat felt weak, and we shipped five builds in those six days (the numbers are here). We keep working the same way. If something feels off, tell us through the feedback form or on Discord, and there's a decent chance the next build answers it.
If you like what you play, wishlist the game. For a team our size that does more than anything else.

285 people got access, 52 launched the game, and four of them told us the same thing about the combat. Here is the first week of the playtest in numbers.
We're looking for people to play an early build and tell us what's wrong with it. Requesting access is one button on the Steam page, and we let people in in waves.
The first playable slice — one level, the Minotaur, Athena, and time rewind — goes to testers in early September. Here's what you'd be playing, what isn't in yet, and how to sign up.
The fifth Ukrainian Games Festival runs on Steam from August 17 to 24, 2026, and KUTO: The Lock of Time is one of the games in it.
